“Millions Embark on Sacred Hajj Pilgrimage to Mecca”

Muslims worldwide are converging in Saudi Arabia for the annual Hajj pilgrimage, a significant religious event. Each year, millions of worshippers journey to Mecca to participate in this sacred tradition, which holds great importance in Islam and is a dream for many Muslims to fulfill in their lifetime.

During the pilgrimage, pilgrims engage in various rituals, such as circumambulating the holy Kaaba and gathering at Mount Arafat for prayers and contemplation. The Hajj occurs during Dhul Hujjah, the final month of the Islamic calendar, with Eid Al-Adha falling on May 27 for the majority of participants.

The influx of pilgrims into Mecca has led to a surge in activity at hotels, airports, and roads. It is advised that worshippers safeguard themselves from the intense heat by using umbrellas, staying hydrated, and avoiding peak outdoor hours when temperatures can soar as high as 44°C.

Eid al-Adha, celebrated on May 27, is a significant festival for Muslims, marking the end of the Hajj pilgrimage. Also known as the “Feast of Sacrifice,” it involves the ritual sacrifice of livestock, symbolizing Prophet Ibrahim’s obedience to Allah’s command.

Pilgrims endure long walks in scorching temperatures between holy sites in Mecca to complete their religious obligations. The region is expected to experience sweltering conditions as Gulf countries enter the summer season, with temperatures ranging from 42°C to 44°C during the day and 26°C to 29°C at night.

Before embarking on the Hajj, pilgrims prepare mentally and spiritually by affirming their intention and entering a state of ritual purity called Ihram. Muslims wear simple white garments to emphasize equality before Allah, abstaining from certain actions like sex, smoking, or cutting hair during the pilgrimage.

Hajj is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, emphasizing the importance of undertaking the pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in a lifetime for physically and financially capable Muslims. By visiting Mecca and fulfilling religious rites, pilgrims fulfill this mandatory duty at the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad.
