Irish Lottery Winner Shawn Keeley Mourned

Tributes and condolences are flowing in for Shawn Keeley, an Irish Lottery winner in his thirties who passed away suddenly but peacefully in the Philippines over the weekend.

Shawn became an instant millionaire in 2020 when he purchased a scratch card that awarded him £1 million (€1.1 million). At the time, he was the manager of Eurospar in Dungiven, Co Derry, and bought the winning ‘£50M Mega Cash Showdown’ Scratchcard from McNicholl’s Eurospar in Dungiven.

Having resided in the Philippines recently, Shawn’s unexpected death has prompted an outpouring of heartfelt messages from friends and family online. One friend expressed disbelief at his passing, highlighting Shawn’s ability to brighten any room he entered and offering thoughts and prayers to his family.

A former colleague shared their sorrow, reminiscing about their time working together and sending condolences to Shawn’s family. Another individual described Shawn as the life of many gatherings with a kind heart, expressing sadness at his loss and sending support to his loved ones.

Announcing Shawn’s passing, McLaughlin Funeral Directors in Dungiven, Co Derry, posted a notice on social media detailing his sudden but peaceful death on May 23, 2026. The notice mentioned Shawn’s family members and provided information on how to donate in his memory to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.

Reflecting on his lottery win, Shawn recounted the moment he discovered his £1 million prize, explaining how a series of scratch cards led to his life-changing windfall.
